Get Set Network Schools - Case Studies
Joseph Whitaker School in Nottinghamshire welcomed LOCOG Education lead, Nick Fuller and Chris Grant, Vice Chair of the International Inspiration Programme, to the school to present them with their Get Set Network plaque and certificate.
The school - which has impressed LOCOG through its work with the Dona Maria Theresa Correa School in Recife, Brazil - wowed the visitors with a lively Brazilian dance presentation and a game of Futsal, a type of football game popular in Brazil.
They were also treated to a Winter Olympics-themed session in which Year 9 Sports Leaders guided Year 7 pupils through a variety of tasks, including slalom, curling and luge-style games. The Joseph Whitaker School has developed its Sports Leadership program together with its partnership school in Brazil.
'I'm very impressed by what I've seen today,' said Chris Grant. 'These students are excellent examples of how London 2012 can spark young peoples' imagination and inspire them to get involved. It's clear that the benefits of International Inspiration are being felt as strongly here in Nottinghamshire as they are in Brazil.'
