Cultural Olympiad 2008-2011 overview
Igniting Ambition launched with Derby Feste in 2008 and since then has delivered an annual programme in each part of the East Midlands before becoming a truly regional festival in 2012.
The programme began with events on 25 August 2008 at Live Sites in Derby and Leicester to mark the handover from Beijing and with a three day outdoor festival of street arts, the Derby Feste, to mark the launch of the Cultural Olympiad in September 2008.
In 2009 a ten day festival of culture was developed to accompany the staging of the GB Special Olympics in Leicester.
2010 saw 30 projects commissioned in the three counties of Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire.
For 2011 27 projects were commissioned and developed for the other three counties of the region - Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire and Rutland - as well as a region-wide arts and environment partnership, Breath of Fresh Air.
