New Dance Commission for Corby's International Pool
Dance4, Corby Borough Council and The Core at Corby Cube, on behalf of the Big Dance Hub Partnership in the East Midlands, seek a choreographer to create an extraordinary dance programme for Big Dance in 2012. You will create a new legendary experience to contribute to Big Dance and London 2012 Festival, the finale of the Cultural Olympiad. Big Dance is the UK’s biggest ever celebration of dance and 2012 will be the greatest sporting year, staying in hearts and minds for generations. The work created will be bespoke to the region, ambitious and excite audiences with unexpected dance experiences.
The commission will take place at the Corby East Midlands International Pool led by The Core, Corby Borough Council and Dance4. This commission will be part of the region’s flagship programme of commissions for Big Dance 2012.
This commission is one of a series of smaller commission across the region that have a specific focus on communities working with artists to produce and create work within local areas of the region. There is a project budget of £7,500 to cover choreographer fees, professional performers and production costs.
The swimming commission will celebrate the new 50-metre pool, a pre-Olympic training camp here in the region. It will be a site located work that will explore dance and its relationship to swimming engaging with a wide range of communities and users of the swimming pool.
The choreographer will need to be available to start work in May, continuing until 22 September 2012 for the final performances and be able to spend considerable time in Corby with the commissioning partners.
