Saturday 3 – Sunday 4 March 2012

Music Nation is a nationwide weekend of live events devised and led by the BBC. It is an unprecedented collaboration of the UK’s orchestral and music-making communities – built primarily around classical music, but also taking in jazz, folk and world music.

In the East Midlands, Music Nation will be marked by four events:

In Derby, sinfonia ViVA will perform the world premiere of Invocation, a new piece by Tunde Jegede for solo African dancer, African percussion, cello and orchestra. Stravinsky's Rite of Spring will also be performed, accompanied by Déda’s young dance group, Bounceback who will be choreographed in a new piece by Tom Dale.

In Lincolnshire, Orchestras Live will present a concert with the European Union Chamber Orchestra and violinist Alexander Sitkovetsky at Stamford Arts Centre.

Nottingham Youth Orchestra will present an evening at the Royal Concert Hall in which musical reflections on past Olympic cities combine with the aspirations of Nottinghamshire's Olympic hopefuls.

In Rutland, the Rutland Concert Band will stage a collaborative performance of music, dance and drama inspired by the theme of 'Multum In Parvo' (Much in Little) - Rutland's motto.

Music Nation is a partnership with Arts Council England, the Association of British Orchestras (ABO), British Association of Concert Halls (BACH), Orchestras Live, Making Music, Conservatoires UK and LOCOG to celebrate the richness, diversity and excellence of Britain’s musical life.
