September 2012, venues region-wide

Bright in the Corner is a brand new musical dance theatre piece created through collaboration between artists from the Black township of Mamelodi, South Africa and from Derbyshire, UK.

Bright in the Corner fuses different cultural traditions and contemporary forms and is being premiered in the East Midlands as the concluding performances of the region’s Cultural Olympiad programme, having been developed with the support of Igniting Ambition since 2009. From a backdrop of serious social and economic challenge, an exhilarating production will uplift audiences, demonstrating joy and pride in international understanding and shared humanity.

The artists will also be participating in World Event Young Artists; they will undertake a summer school at the Joseph Wright Centre, Derby College and will deliver an extensive educational programme for local schools, including a collaboration with Viva Sinfonia.
