Education
Background
The London Games will provide an enormous opportunity to inspire a generation of young people to express themselves and participate fully in sport, the arts, culture and media. With the eyes of the world on the UK, the Games will provide the chance for young people to share experiences with their peers around the world and develop an understanding of their role within a global society.
London 2012 will be developing a range of resources for the education sector in the build up to the Games. Head of Education, Nick Fuller has been appointed and he will be leading the development of plans throughout 2007 - 2008.
The Children and Young People area is being led regionally by the local authorities working in partnership with the Government Office for the East Midlands, Sport England and Culture East Midlands.
What Can I Do Now?
London 2012 have developed an online resource known as ‘On Your Marks’ for teachers, young people and parents to build on the excitement of the Games. To visit the site go to www.london2012.com/onyourmarks.
East Midlands Strategy
We have recently completed a consultation exercise to develop a region wide strategy for maximising the benefits of the Games. We have thoroughly reviewed the comprehensive feedback received and this forms the basis of the East Midlands Strategy for the 2012 Games.
