Health & Wellbeing

« Back To Key Activity Areas

Background

The health benefits of sport and physical activity are now proven and widely accepted. The London Games provides a huge opportunity to inspire the region’s citizens around the key message of health and wellbeing. We intend to use the Games to help combat the region’s rising levels of obesity.

The Regional Director of Public Health is leading in this area alongside the Government Office for the East Midlands and working closely with existing cross-service partnerships such as Children’s Trusts, healthy schools, school nurses, School Sports Coordinators and County Sports Partnerships as well as health professionals in established regional groups.

East Midlands Strategy

We have recently completed a consultation exercise to develop a region wide strategy for maximising the benefits of the Games. We have thoroughly reviewed the comprehensive feedback received and this forms the basis of the East Midlands Strategy for the 2012 Games.

To request a hard copy of the document or to find out how you can get involved in helping deliver any aspect of the strategy please email regionalcoordinator@emd.org.uk
