adiZone launched in Ashfield

Over 300 school children were among the guests for the opening of the new adiZone facility at Sutton Lawn in Ashfiled. It is the first adiZone in the East Midlands to be launched. The adiZone takes the shape of the 2012 logo and boasts a performance area, basketball, climbing wall and outdoor gym equipment.

Musubi magic hits Loughborough University

Around 50 students from Campion School in Northamptonshire have gathered at Loughborough University to take part in the first Musubi day. This exciting new initiative, being led by South Wolds Community School in Keyworth, Nottinghamshire aims to contribute to the London 2012 legacy, as well as the region's growing relationship with Japan.

National Volleyball Centre launches in Kettering

Volleyball England is launching its new National Centre on 7th November at Kettering Conference Centre. The Centre will provide top class training and education facilities for talented young athletes and local communities in the lead up to the London 2012 Games

London 2012 Chief Executive visits the East Midlands

Paul Deighton has visited East Midlands Airport to unveil a series of 2012 inspired images, Loughborough College to see the Loughborough Flames project, New Walk Museum in Leicester to participate in the Love Sport Exhibition, and Corgi to meet the team based in Leicester working on a series of London 2012 model vehicles.

East Midlands companies already winning gold from London 2012

Thirty-four companies or organisations from the East Midlands have already won contracts from the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA), and many more have won work supplying the ODA's contractors through the supply chain.

Open Weekend 2009

With three years to go to the start of the 2012 Games, over 20 events in the region 'opened up' to celebrate the Open Weekend. Activities included the opening of Corby East Midlands International Pool, the Igniting Ambition showcase in Leicester and the SO 2009 Festival in Skegness. To coincide with the Open Weekend a regional report was published to capture the achievements made so far in creating a tangible legacy from the 2012 Games.

Loughborough University signs Olympic agreement with Japan

emda is delighted that Loughborough University has become the first Pre Games Training Camp in the region to sign an agreement with a National Olympic Committee. Loughborough University and the Japanese Olympic Committee signed a Memorandum of Understanding that will see both organisations working together until the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Seb Coe visits Nottinghamshire to inspire sporting success

Seb Coe, Chairman of LOCOG, visited Nottinghamshire to see for himself how local projects are ensuring the East Midlands benefits from the London 2012 Games.  The visit included Trent Bridge Cricket Ground - a host venue of the World Twenty 20 in June and a Pre Games Training Camp, the St Ann's and Sneinton Education Improvement Partnership - delivering a successful sports volunteering project, and the Dukeries College, Ollerton - to meet 12 schools involved in the International Inspiration programme.
