The London 2012 Torch Relay
will visit 73 communties in
the East Midlands
- Over 95% of the UK population will be within 10 miles of the Olympic Flame when it tours the UK next year.
London 2012 Torch Relay
73 communities in the East Midlands will be on the Olympic Torch Relay route as it passes through the region from 27 to 30 June and from 2 to 4 July 2012.
LOCOG has worked closely with partners from across the East Midlands to devise a route that will see the Olympic Flame being carried through every county, ensuring it achieves the optimum mix of proximity to people whilst also taking in beautiful natural and urban landmarks to showcase the East Midlands around the world.
Not only does the East Midlands route include villages, town and cities, it will also take in many landmarks along the way and will be carried for sections of the route by different modes of transport. In the East Midlands these include the Flame being carried across the ice rink at the National Ice Centre in Nottingham and being carried up the Heights of Abraham in Matlock, in a cable car. Torchbearers will also visit iconic locations such as the National Space Centre in Leicester and the Robin Hood Statue in Nottingham.

Evening Celebrations
There will be four evening celebrations in the East Midlands - Lincoln (27/06/12), Nottingham (28/06/12), Derby (29/06/12) and Leicester (02/07/12).
